Executive Editor - News & Views
Salary: Competitive
Contract: Fixed-Term for 12 months
Are you passionate about news, features and opinion articles, multimedia and infographics? We’re seeking an Executive Editor who will work closely with the Publisher and our section editors to improve content at all stages of the workflow, to help reinforce The Pharmaceutical Journal’s position as one of the leading publications serving pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences.
Requirements:
- Graduate-level journalism training and/or at least five years’ journalism writing experience.
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in science, pharmacy or medicine.
- Strong news sense, with evidence of generating exclusive news stories.
- Experience in commissioning news, features and opinion pieces.
- Excellent communication and writing/editing skills.
- Methodical and accurate approach to work, yet able to work to tight deadlines.
- Experience working with online publishing tools, multimedia content and data analysis is desirable.
The Directorate
PJ Publications is an integral department of Pharmaceutical Press, the publishing division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The department comprises four business functions: product, editorial, business development, and production, with a brilliant team of editors, journalists and product people constantly looking to do new things and improve our products and how we work.
We employ a mix of business models across our portfolio of products, from membership, subscriptions, advertising and sponsorship, ensuring that the portfolio remains fully aligned to the larger organisational mission and vision of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
The Team
The Executive Editor will join our six-strong news and views team, who work closely together to break exclusive news, conduct in-depth investigations and showcase opinions that challenge and inspire change. We do this through both written and multimedia content, including podcasts and interactive infographics. The Executive Editor will also work closely with colleagues in our learning and production teams to deliver relevant and accurate content to readers in a timely manner.
How we are currently working
RPS supports and works in a hybrid way, which means you will be able to work from home, however, there will be an expectation for collaborative face-to-face working – on average and typically this may be something between 4-8 working days per month at our London Office.
